Using Toys To Communicate

As children grow, playing helps their language grow. There are many toys that encourage children to communicate. Toy telephones, dolls, staffed animals, and puppets are some of the toys that help children learn to talk. When parents and children play together with toys, communication becomes a wonderful game.

A favorite of many children is a telephone. Children have watched their parents talk into this strange machine. Using a telephone makes them feel like Mommy and Daddy. Children from about twelve to eighteen months often enjoy babbling a few words into a toy telephone, then handing it to an adult. ?It?s for you?, they say. Then they listen with interest as adult makes up a conversation. The child, the parents, and the toy phone work together to make communication a game.

Stuffed animals and dolls are other toys that help children develop their speech. Small children talk to toy animals and dolls the way their parents talk to children. Parents can make or buy toys that help children learn to talk. Hand puppets are favorite toys. They can be made of small paper bags with drawn faces on them. Very young children like to have the puppets to talk to themselves. They want to talk for the puppets.

Telephones, dolls, stuffed animals, and puppets are just some of the toys that are helping children talk well in a way that is fun.
